The Soltice GXP did a 1:36.7, pretty good too. The 350Z did not so good at 1:38.3

“The BMW is the sportiest car of the group and the quickest around the track [1:35.9 seconds quick]. It’s the easiest to push to the edge.” Chirico ticks through why: “Smooth gear changes, nicely weighted steering, confidence-inspiring brakes, linear power delivery, progressive handling. All of them allow you to work it right up to its limits without getting bitten.”

I believe the 35si is even quicker. I remember seeing one of their time boards with that car in some pretty amazing company.

You know, German cars are known to have underrated performance figures.

It’s true. I think the N55 is probably making more than any 300HP.

Though the car above is ‘inspired’ by the racing GT3R and made into a road going car. I would take it*

*and then drive it down the road to M-Sport who made the racing GT3R and have them fettle with it. :)

Having owned a Z4 for 3 years, I can confidently say it was NOT easy to drive near the limit. The balance was heavily towards understeer, and it has an electronic differential. So at spirited speeds, it was sporty, but as soon as you get to the limit it was all out of whack. It wanted to understeer so bad, that if you ever got it to oversteer, it would let go big time. And then you had no LSD to catch it with the throttle.

Plus sitting over the rear axle is a weird feeling. The car rotates about a point in front of you, and you swing out along with the rear axle. It was all very odd, so I never drove more than 8/10. Just not confidence inspiring. I hated the handling and eventually got rid of the car.
